Hall of Akhenaten – Amarna | Cairo Museum | Sala di Akhenaton at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, the room dedicated to Egypt's most radical pharaoh and the Amarna Period.
Here you'll find the colossal sandstone statues of Akhenaten from his temple to the Aten at Karnak, carved with the strange, elongated features that broke every rule of traditional Egyptian art.
Nearby stands the unfinished quartzite statue of Queen Nefertiti, left in the workshop of the sculptor Thutmose.
Reliefs on the walls show a side of royal life almost never seen in ancient Egypt: Akhenaten and Nefertiti playing with their daughters beneath the rays of the Aten, the sun disk they worshipped as the one true god.
For seventeen years, Akhenaten tried to remake Egypt's religion and art around a single idea.
This hall is where that vision still stands in stone.
